HIV/AIDS
In a time where the AIDS virus was a relatively new discovery, Princess Diana did something that many people would be hesitant to do. She took quite a number of trips to Africa to give her time to helping victims of the virus, but not only was Diana touching and giving handshakes to them, she was also comforting them. Being one of the first people to be photographed doing this, she was a leader in helping the public have a better understanding of the virus, and increased efforts in looking for a cure.
"HIV does not make people dangerous to know, so you can shake their hands and give them a hug: Heaven knows they need it." |
